Monet’s paintings have always inspired me. Painting this recreation of his original Houses on the Achterzaan, set in the Netherlands, pushed me to explore and improve my skills in impressionist techniques. I used similar brushes, pigments, and techniques as Monet did when painting the original.
What might be most surprising about this painting is that Monet didn’t use the color black. Instead, he mixed dark values from complementary colors.
